We recently wrapped up our Rocks and Minerals unit in science. We loved all of our hands-on activities, such as making “rock cookies” with a variety of candy “minerals”, exploring many kinds of rocks, and going out to investigate different types of soil. But the best part of our unit may have been our walk to the local rock store!

After our turkey feasts over the long Thanksgiving weekend, we got back into the swing of things with a busy short week. On Tuesday, local firefighters chatted with classes about fire prevention. We walked to the mall on Wednesday for Silver Cove’s “Rocktoberfest”. There were so many rocks, minerals, and gemstones to examine as a wrap-up to our Rocks and Minerals science unit. In math, we have been studying polygons and working on improving our basic addition facts. We have mastered ten and a half minutes of stamina as readers AND writers in Daily 5, and we are looking forward to adding to this time next week. We are also finishing up our Robert Munsch language arts theme, and we have really enjoyed blogging about our favourite Munsch stories.
